BASKA-VODA

As you drive down the beautiful coastal road from Brela, along the Makarska Riviera, the next town well worth seeing is Baska Voda, with its luscious beaches and throngs of sailors, windsurfers and sun worshipers. It’s hard to imagine that a town with just 2,000 people has 10 000 beds in hotels, private accommodation, apartments and camps. But its long white pebbly beaches, gorgeous harbor, very good restaurants, pizzerias and tavernas, cafés and pastry shops make it an alluring destination.  Off the beach, Biokovo Mountain bekons and there are fascinating excursions to the hamlets of Bast and Topici, which are famous for home-made cheese, prosciutto and home-made bread ("ispod peke"). And there are easy walking trails to Promajna and the tiny fishing village of hamlet of Bratus, with wonderful stone houses and village architecture.  The frequent, air-conditioned bus service gets you to Omis and Split in half an hour or all the way down to Dubrovnik in three.
