BUZETFor those who love truffles, agro-tourism, wine and untouched nature, Buzet, the “city of truffles” is well worth a side trip from Rijeka, Porec or Trieste (Italy), each about 50km away. Pula is about 90km distant but each of these cities has bus connections to Buzet. The town itself lies in the very heart of the northern part of Croatian Istria on a 150-meter-high hill overlooking the Mirna River valley. The new part of the town is called Fontana. Despite its tiny size, just 6,000 inhabitants, a growing number of wine connoisseurs, truffle lovers and others looking for the off-the-beaten-track charm of interior Croatia are discovering Buzet. And it’s very close to the hilltop magic of Motovun and just a bit further inland, Pazin, with its famous castle. Just two more reasons why central Istria is such a marvelous find! Tourist office
